BIO

The Mad Sugars are the songwriting vehicle of Adam Lawrence, combining the dance rock of Franz Ferdinand, the garage punk of The Hives, and the vocal harmonies and party vibes of The B-52s as a backdrop for stories of nightlife misadventures. Hailing originally from New Jersey, and later New York City, Adam relocated from New York to Nashville in 2017 and re-formed the band, releasing Reboot EP in October of 2021, containing reimagined renditions of older songs for the new Nashville audience.

In recent years, The Mad Sugars’ music has been used in TV shows such as The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Chicago Fire, and Search Party, and the band released their first full length album Personal Space on March 22, 2024. Since its release, Adam and his bandmates have become regular players with various cover band acts on Nashville’s Broadway circuit, before bringing The Mad Sugars’ brand of energetic rock down to Broadway in 2025 to showcase the music that shaped the band, with covers ranging from classic punk, new wave & 80s, to 90s alt-rock, 90s & 00s punk, and 00s indie rock.

“Sonically, those who are familiar with The Mad Sugars will be happy with [‘Lost Among the Avenues’], as it’s another example of the band’s penchant for high-powered, highly danceable alt-rock.” — Gerard Longo, Underground Music Collective (March 30, 2024)

“Casey’s DJ pick of the week is ‘New York Girls’ by The Mad Sugars. Describing their sound as ‘garage rock dance pop,’ The Mad Sugars pull influence from 60s/70s rock & roll and balance it with their own artistic flair. The band is leaving their mark everywhere they go, with footprints in New York and now, right here in Nashville.” — Mikayla Hart, Lightning 100 (November 17, 2022)
